First Blog

Hello!

This is my first ever online blog!

Back in the day before the wonderful worldwide Web we used a good old fashioned 2B or biro to write in our diary, journal of newsletter.

There is some comfort in the familiar but if we don’t embrace technology mentally we stagnate!

I was recently looking at some work by David Hockney on an Ipad, impressionist trees. Fascinating.

I concluded whatever age or skill level of artist. Don’t be scared to try new things!

Welcome to my site!

Hi, welcome to my website. I’m Jacqueline Smith, a Textile Artist and designer, based in the Lancashire village of Trawden and with a studio nearby in an old mill in Sough.

Following a degree in Textiles from Winchester School of Art, I have been producing my hand painted illustrations and working as a professional artist, running specialist workshops in schools and also selling my artwork in galleries and settings, both locally and nationally.

My website showcases a range of the work I enjoy producing, on a variety of themes, as you will see in my portfolio section. A strong love of colour, textures and surfaces is evident in my paintings which are often produced and hand painted on silk, cotton, canvas and also handmade paper.

The surfaces are built up with collage and embroidered using stitch to bring the detail into the piece.

Often I incorporate music, words, clocks and manuscript into the pieces and more recently have been developing and incorporating photographic imagery from my inspiration.

Having been lucky to have been taught at an early age by a very inspiring teacher, I see this as being an important part of my role as an artist and passing this enthusiasm and love of my subject onto others.

Have a look at my blog for my latest work and projects I am currently working on and to follow the thread of my creative journey. Thanks for looking at my site!

“Be brave enough to live creatively. The creative is the place where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. You can’t get there by bus, only by hard work, risking, and by not quite knowing what you’re doing. What you’ll discover will be wonderful: yourself”.–Alan Alda
